The subject of this class is broken windows policing and the Close Rikers campaign. We'll focus on language around policing and criminal justice, discuss broken windows policing in NYC and the activism around the Close Rikers campaign, as well as practice Spanish canvassing conversations for the campaign.
If you get a chance, please try to read this article before Sunday: https://eldiariony.com/2014/08/05/politica-de-ventanas-rotas-una-pesadilla-para-minorias-en-nyc/
And if you want to read more about recent efforts around closing Rikers, check out this article: https://eldiariony.com/2017/03/31/alcalde-de-blasio-acepta-cerrar-la-carcel-de-rikers-island/
As always, we plan to conduct the class primarily in Spanish, but want to make it accessible to people with all language levels!
