Immigration Justice Working Group Meeting

  • CUNY Grad Center – Room 5409 365 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10016 United States (map)

We'll meet to discuss our ongoing work with SanctuaryHood in Brooklyn, including plans for our upcoming community meeting in Sunset Park and next steps for establishing sanctuary spaces in Bushwick/Ridgewood. We'll make a decision on how and if to proceed with a Crown Heights-based mutual aid project, and talk about upcoming OC elections.

We'll also have a discussion about the 1980s Sanctuary movement and its lessons for today's movement. If you can, please read these articles before Monday's meeting:

A Demand for Sanctuary by Hilary Goodfriend in Jacobin, February 2017

Central Americans and Asylum Policy in the Reagan Era by Susan Gzesh for Migration Policy, April 2006

And if podcasts are more your speed, you can listen to this great episode of 99 Percent Invisible on the Sanctuary movement, part 1 and part 2

Please email immigrant.justice@socialists.nyc with any questions, suggestions for the agenda, or anything else!
