NYC can #DefundDAPL THIS TUESDAY, 5/23!
Rally @ 3:30pm at the Brooklyn Municipal Building
On May 23rd at 4pm, the NYC Banking Commission meets to approve the banks that NYC will use for the next 2 years. We are asking the Banking Commission - made up of Mayor de Blasio, Comptroller Stringer, and Commissioner Jiha - to end the city's relationship with Wells Fargo and other banks funding the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Through divestment from the pipeline, we are building momentum for a national, indigenous-led movement for sovereignty for all Native Nations. The Dakota Access Pipeline violates indigenous sovereignty, endangers the drinking water of millions, and threatens us here in NYC by contributing to climate change. It is time for NYC to follow Seattle, Davis, and Philadelphia, all of whom have already voted to divest.
Join us in front of the Brooklyn Municipal Building at 3:30pm as we rally with members of the Ramapough Lunaape Nation and hear the voices of young Native New Yorkers. Now is the time for NYC to stand with Standing Rock and put its money where its mouth is. Join us to ask the NYC Banking Commission to #DivestDefundDecolonize.
