NBK Night School Session 3 — Marxist Politics (Why Socialism?)

  • Mayday 176 St. Nicholas Ave Brooklyn, NY 11237 (map)

What it really means to say that “the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles?” This meeting attempts to clarify some of Marx’s political thought. We will begin with his infamous 1848 “Communist Manifesto,” co-authored with Friedrich Engels. Is this classic revolutionary text still relevant to our present moment, and if so, how? We will also look at some of Marx’s early philosophical writings, including his notion of Alienation.

Please come having done the readings.
