Conflict Is Not Abuse Book Club

Please join the Socialist Feminist Political Education Committee for a very special reading series on Conflict Is Not Abuse: Overstating Harm, Community Responsibility, and the Duty of Repair (2016) by Sarah Schulman.

Conflict is Not Abuse discusses why we should view conflict outside of the victim/abuser paradigm and proposes ways to mediate conflict and communicate without shunning. The text explores the complexities of uncomfortable situations, and why conflict is often mistaken for abuse.  DSA is in a critical moment where we must evaluate how we address interpersonal violence and offenses and how we evaluate grievances. Reading Conflict Is Not Abuse will be a valuable way to turn political education into political praxis.

The author, Sarah Schulman, is an activist, prolific novelist, Guggenheim-fellowship-winning playwright, and distinguished professor, and has been involved in ACT UP and the Lesbian Avengers.

This reading group will meet 4 times from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm before ending in a final visit with Sarah Schulman!
