This month's meeting we're going to engage with the recent actions of tech workers against ICE. Whether at Google, Microsoft, or Salesforce, there's no denying there's a surge in tech worker agitation against employer contracts with immigration agencies. Many of these actions are pressure campaigns against CEOs and managers, mainly in the form of circulating petitions. How do we view these strategies as members of DSA and Tech Action? What are the benefits and limitations of pressure campaigns against management? How can we add to our organizing arsenal by linking tech worker demands in the workplace to the needs of the broader working class, including victims of ICE harassment?
We're going to try to have drinks on the roof this time, weather and access permitting. Otherwise, it's back across the street at Black Door!
Some readings to prepare for the discussion:
Ben’s interview about Google/Maven activism really shows how much organizing was going on at Google.
Good overview in Wired about tech worker organizing.
