What is capitalism, and what is socialism? Why do the socialists oppose capitalism, and what do they propose to put in its place? People curious about socialism often ask these and other questions. Now they can get all these answers, and more, all in one place!
The Bronx/Upper Manhattan Political Education Committee presents Socialism 101, a fun and easy introduction to socialism. Beginners are welcome! Whether you're new to the DSA or just curious about socialism, we've lined up a series of enlightening and interactive multimedia activities designed to create a space for free and open exploration of the core questions at the heart of socialist theory and practice. By the end, we hope everyone will come out knowing the basics of what socialists fight for and how to join the movement.
Topics covered include:
What is capitalism?
Why do socialists oppose it?
How do capitalist and socialist perspectives differ on a number of key issues (such as class, value, imperialism, etc)?
How did capitalism come to exist, and why is it exploitative?
Are there historical examples of socialist success stories?
What do socialists do today?
